How It All Began

 
 

TargetClick Marketing was formed on June 1, 2011 by Doug Drees, Greg Jass and Therese Kuster after a merger between two internet marketing firms with complementary services. The companies came together after realizing they could provide more and better (read: more awesome) services if they joined forces.

One year later on June 1, 2012, TargetClick Marketing was acquired by a fellow Cedar Falls advertising firm and became TargetClick Powered by Mudd Advertising.

I have always been and will always be motivated by small goals within learning. I love the “ah-ha!” feeling you get after understanding something for the first time and the “wahoo!” feeling after mastering even the smallest of goals! The best is combining the two and setting a goal to learn more. I set goals through learning every single day!

So, what do you DO anyway?

Do you ever use a search engine to find something you are looking for, and an ad comes up that has the perfect content, perfect wording, and will take you exactly where you want to go? Chances are, it was written by our amazing SEM team. I help our team to create these ads, monitor the content, and make sure that the clients are happy with their results in SEM!

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?  

I studied Communication Design, Art and Business in my four years at college. I think these studies combined not only gave me an understanding for marketing, but also helped me to take on projects and make them the best that they can be for the people who will be using them! My creative background also helps me in creating the ads and thinking outside of the box for solutions!

What motivates you?

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied marketing at UNI but being successful in sales requires far more than what you learn in the classroom. Real-world experience and learning from the best are what has helped me thus far.

What motivates you?

I’ve always been motivated by whatever it takes to attain my own personal success. However, since joining TargetClick, I’ve become a total team player. I function independently, but work to achieve results for the clients and ultimately success for our team.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I am the Content Manager here at TargetClick. I create, edit and generally oversee any type of text that appears online, be it website copy, whitepapers or really sweet blogs.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Marketing and a minor in Journalism. That being said, I feel like one of the few people in this country who uses their college degree for a related purpose. Studying journalism has helped me to hone my writing skills, while a background in marketing assists with strategizing and implementing web content.

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a B.A. in Communication. My personal belief is that what you study in college isn’t nearly as important as the fact that you go. The college experience taught me professionalism, accountability, and the importance of hard work — all important parts of what I do here at TargetClick.

What motivates you?

A relentless drive to better myself in everything that I do.  I find reward in continuously catapulting the success of my work to new heights, and I cringe at the thought of not meeting my personal performance standards.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

In an extremely cramped nutshell: I manage our clients’ Search Engine Marketing and Online Display Advertising efforts.  Or, you could say I feed you relevant Ads while search and surf.  You know those extremely enticing Ads you see as you peruse Google and/or Bing?  I write those, and I do so in a manner that provides our clients with a positive return on their marketing investment.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I graduated from UNI with a B.A. in Marketing (Advertising Emphasis).  Overall, my education at UNI has helped me to understand the importance of fulfilling an unmet (or poorly met) consumer (and/or business) need, and doing so in a fashion that not only meets company-level objectives, but that also tells an appealing story that resonates with a specific target audience (i.e. the story sells!).

What motivates you?

I ask myself, am I making myself better? No matter what I am doing, there is a constant desire to grow and learn at every possible opportunity. If I’m not trying to improve at something I spend a lot of time on, then what is the point?

So, what do you DO anyway?

As an search engine optimization (SEO) specialist, I help increase traffic to client websites using tactics to improve their organic search results. This helps clients grow by increasing exposure to people interested in their services.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I was a Marketing major with emphasis in Advertising & Digital Media, and had a second major in Electronic Media Leadership. My education gave me exposure to many aspects of the advertising industry. Areas such as SEO/SEM, Social Media Marketing, and Media Buying and Selling were all areas I was familiar with prior to entering the industry. Obtaining the basic knowledge of how the digital industry operates gave me a strong foundation that made my transition to TargetClick seamless.

What motivates you?

What motivates me every day is the endless possibilities of learning. This is why SEO is great because there is always something new and exciting going on!

So, what do you DO anyway?

I’m involved with a little thing called Search Engine Optimization (SEO). What we do is pretty important. We ultimately help our clients rank higher on search engines organically. Most of the time you will see me conducting keyword research, creating optimized content, making conversion pages, and helping around with other tasks involving all things SEO.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I am studying Business and Administration with an emphasis in Marketing at Wartburg College. Through my courses, I’ve learned that we are living in an ever changing marketing world. This has developed my curiosity in digital advertising and has challenged me to keep up-to-date with the latest changes and trends.

I help find the right solution for market challenges for equipment dealerships.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I have a BS in Agricultural Communications and minor in Production Agriculture from The Ohio State University. Because of the broad stroke of Ag science and communication background I have received with this degree, I not only understand the purpose behind farming practices, but I can also communicate them to an audience. At Target Click, I am here to help ensure dealer’s message is being heard clearly when its definition is convoluted..

Making a difference. No matter what I’m doing I am motivated by the fact that what I am doing matters to someone. At work or not I try to do everything with a purpose!

So, what do you DO anyway?

As the Digital Content Specialist I do both content writing for things like conversion pages and blogs as well as working a lot with social media from the consulting level to full social media management for our clients.  

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

At Simpson I was an Creative Integrated Marketing Communications major. I learned a lot about social media and how it can be used for business, but I also learned how to write for different mediums and market for different mediums. So far a lot of my degree is coming in handy, which I love!

What motivates you? 

Learning new things has always been a great motivator for me. In every job and every position, there is always something new to learn. From every job I’ve had, I believe I’ve always been able to learn something new, or a new way to look at a problem.

So, what do you DO anyway?

I communicate and educate clients on different services while managing their campaign. I also coordinate with our client and the rest of the team to make sure we have updated creative and that our efforts reflect what the client is ultimately trying to accomplish. 

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied Finance/Real Estate at the University of Northern Iowa. Not only did I learn the fundamentals necessary for any financial or managerial position, but I was able to build on important skills considered universally valuable in any industry: leadership, communication skills, report writing, teamwork, problem solving, data analysis, and time management. These are all valuable skills in my current position at TargetClick.

There’s nothing more motivating than a satisfied and excited client.  I love pushing my creative limits to produce that satisfaction and excitement.

So, what do you DO anyway?

I mostly design graphics – anything from conversion page images, to display and retargeting ads, to website design.   I’ve also been tackling some big internal marketing projects with design and implementation.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I’m finishing up my super senior year (yay!) at UNI, doubling majoring in Marketing with an advertising emphasis and Graphic Communications.  Combining my two passions has been very beneficial by being able to design with the knowledge of this competitive industry in mind.

So, what do you DO anyway?

I keep in contact with account managers, content writers, and designers to coordinate website development.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I studied Public Relations with a minor in Marketing at UNI. It’s helped me a ton already at TargetClick. Probably the most important is how to effectively communicate. I don’t think I would be where I am if I didn’t take numerous speech and communication classes throughout college. Social media marketing and effectively marketing online definitely helped a lot too.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I studied Marketing with an emphasis in sales. It has helped me to see the importance of building relationships and how to construct the day to day conversations we call ‘selling’.

What motivates you?

I was going to say: Manual work is a powerful motivator for me. It’s time consuming. I’d much rather be eating pizza, which, incidentally, is another powerful motivator. My inspiration is the Roomba® robot vacuum. It vacuums the floor for me so I can go eat pizza. I love to find tasks and processes that can be automated. And I love creating the “robot vacuums” (i.e. systems) for automating those tasks and processes.  But instead I’ll give you the boring, stuffy, politically correct alternative answer:  I am motivated by tasks that can be automated. I enjoy identifying these tasks. I also enjoy designing and creating the systems that automate the tasks.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I develop systems for automating SEM and SEO processes.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied music composition/theory, classical guitar and Spanish. My studies taught me how to think critically, how to see the underlying structures of systems, and how to combine knowledge and creativity to improve those systems, all of which has helped me succeed at TargetClick.

Being given a challenge and seeing it through to the end is very important to me but my clients’ success is my biggest motivation.

So, what do you DO anyway?

I run ad campaigns on Google & Bing etc. for our clients who are mostly Automotive & Ag Equipment Dealers.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

B.A. in History from the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating I did an internship with Shaun Linderbaum at BraceAbility.com and realized online marketing was where I wanted to be. My degree has been a great help in my online marketing experience. History taught me the importance of analyzing large amounts of information and to pick out the broad patterns that have the most effect. This has been important in analyzing my clients’ campaigns to come up with solutions for success.

What motivates you? 

I’m motivated by multiple different factors.  Externally, I’m a team player and really want to help make this agency great.  We have an excellent team and all the tools to do some really amazing stuff.  Internally, I’m a perfectionist and extremely detailed orientated.  I strive for the best, and am my hardest critic if I come up short.  Most of all, I want to brag to all of my high school buddies on our 20th reunion that I have a cooler job than they do.

So, what do you DO anyway?

As an Account Manager, I handle sold accounts and make sure campaigns get underway [and completed] in a timely manner.  In a nutshell, I tell the team what they need to know so they can do their job, and relay their progress back to the client.  I’m in this role because I love building relationships.  I have forged many strong relationships with clients in my past that have led to me being treated like family.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

Technically, I have a Marketing degree with an emphasis in Sales from Northern Iowa – but realistically – I have an emphasis in advertising with the amount of advertising classes I took.  It taught me a ton about the ad industry and made me realize how amazing it sounded to wear jeans to work every day.  In addition to interning at Mudd for a short time, I was President of a student organization based around advertising.  Being a part of that organization skyrocketed my understanding of the industry and allowed me to manage a fully-integrated ad campaign from scratch.

I’m motivated by the designs all around me.  If you’re a designer, you find inspiration in all forms of advertising from logos to billboards.  I also get a lot of inspiration from following design blogs and it motivates me to become a better designer.

I design the graphics for blog post images, Facebook ads, conversion page images, display ads, and website design.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied Graphic Technologies and Marketing at the University of Northern Iowa.  Working in this environment has allowed both sides of my schooling to work together to create all kinds of advertising.

I do Client Services work for our lovely Mudd EQ clients. I send over advertising projects such as scripts, catalogs, and direct mail pieces to clients for their approval. If the client would like changes made, I communicate with members of our team to make sure the pieces match what they had in mind.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I am studying Public Relations with a minor in Marketing at the University of Northern Iowa. My classes teach me how to communicate with others as well as how to work in group. The skills I learn in the classroom help me to effectively communicate with clients here at TargetClick.

What motivates you?

Knowing that every day I have the opportunity to make an impact on our client’s bottom line, and come up with ideas that we can implement that can further drive results.  I’m very results driven, which is why I love what I do.  I also love working with a team of people every day that are passionate about what they do and are here to do the same thing – have fun and do great things for our company and our clients.

 So, what do you DO anyway?

I oversee all of our Paid Search/Search Engine Marketing efforts.  I work with our SEM team to come up with new ideas to help clients, create efficiencies, get results and help make sure clients are getting the reporting they need to see the results we generate.  I also work on Digital Strategy to help find new opportunities for new products and services for team and our clients.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I studied Marketing and Finance at The University of Denver. My Finance background helped me with numbers and analyzing data and the Marketing background gave me the basics in how to help a brand grow.

I studied marketing with an emphasis in advertising at UNI, where I developed a deep curiosity and interest in digital marketing, and provided me with a great foundation of general marketing knowledge that is necessary for all aspects of digital marketing.

Learning- I love learning new things and figuring out how I can apply them to what I am doing at work.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I am one of TargetClick’s Account Managers. I work with some of our clients to keep them posted on how everything is going with the services they are getting from us. I also make sure that everything on our end is up to date with the most recent creative and that we are meeting the clients’ needs. In addition to all that jazz, I handle some of our Social Media and Reputation Management.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

Marketing/Advertising and I minored in Graphic Technologies. The class Digital Advertising offered at UNI was the best class to have taken to prepare me for this job. It covers all of the basics of SEO, SEM, Social media, and just an overall understanding of digital marketing.

What motivates you?

I’m motivated by seeing the TargetClick team explore new ideas and techniques that ultimately help our clients. I love to see people grow in their roles, and I love it even more when it can help clients grow their business.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I support the team, and make sure they have what they need to do what they do! As Director of Operations, I do everything I can to improve processes, organize things, prioritize tasks and solve problems. That way, the people who make the magic happen can do so with as much ease as possible.  One of my favorite parts of my job is finding new talent. What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied Public Relations at The Great University of Northern Iowa. I think one of the biggest advantages was learning how to communicate with people. People at different stages of understanding, or different stages of happiness (or unhappiness) is crucial for my role at TargetClick. So, what do you DO anyway? 

My focus is to secure relationships with clients where each of us can experience tremendous amounts of success.  I do this by speaking at conferences, spend a great deal of time with clients (new and old), and relentlessly focus on delivering value to our clients.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied Marketing and Management in college.  Although I think each of these are very valuable, I quickly learned I didn’t really know anything about running a business or what it takes.  I give a tremendous amount value to continued learning and learning from experiences.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?

I majored in Marketing at the University of Northern Iowa, but I have to give the vast majority of the credit to the UNI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center. I can whole-heartedly say that TargetClick would not be the company it is today without the JPEC. I learned more about business in that building than I have anywhere else.

Self-respect. Completing something you know isn’t your best work is an awful and disappointing feeling. You can’t lie to yourself!

 

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I do what all the cool kids do these days – Search Engine Optimization. I develop SEO strategies for clients, implement those strategies, create beautiful conversion pages and monitor our pure genius techniques.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I am a Marketing/Advertising graduate from the University of Northern Iowa.  My advertising classes were challenging, but extremely fun, exactly like my work here at TargetClick. UNI gave me the analytical skills I needed to learn and understand the crazy and always changing world of SEO.

I’m motivated by the people around me. The last thing I want to do is let my team down by not bringing my best to the table. I think that’s also the reason I’m looking to try new things. Not only does that help me become a better designer but it also helps the people I work with.

So, what do you DO anyway?

Design some super rad looking conversion pages, display ads, and all sorts of cool print media.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick?  

I studied Graphic Communications and learned all the in’s and out’s of cutting edge design programs and the fundamentals of sound design. Its helped me create some really cool and effective advertisements that I am pretty proud of.

What motivates you? 

The whole Mudd EQ division motivates me.  I get so pumped to see our team excel and help equipment dealers grow their business. My family also motivates me.  I want to show my kids that the harder you work the greater the rewards.

So, what do you DO anyway?

Ummm…what do I do?  I create marketing plans for Equipment Dealers so they can start to see a return on their marketing dollars. More than that I foster relationships with my clients, that truly is the best part of my job!

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I received my Bachelors degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Communications.  As if that was not enough education,  I continued on and completed my Masters degree in Public Relations and Marketing.  Although my education has certainly come in handy, my on the job experience has taught me so much more!

What motivates you? 

I’m motivated by the fact that I’m creating things. Being creative is one of the best parts of a job and through web design; we’re creating entire pages on the web that are totally and completely public and personalized to our clients. It’s wicked cool to know that what we are creating is being used and being seen by people all over the place.

So, what do you DO anyway?

I build pages for clients on their websites. It could be for a blog post, event, or basically whatever they tell me to do. I also update images, banners, and content on websites. I guess my title kind of lays it out: I edit content on the web.

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I’m a student at THE University of Northern Iowa. As a Graphic Technology major, it’s crazy helpful because it’s given me the basic knowledge of the web and marketing. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve been learning and luckily working here is only helping me to learn more and in real time! I don’t think I’d know hardly any of the stuff I do here with TargetClick if my major hadn’t become my hobby.

The thrill of learning new things and improving.

So, what do you DO anyway? 

I manage project flow and make sure that our projects are on time, running smoothly and are accurate. Sending/checking/receiving email is a huge part of my day!

What did you study in college and how has it helped you succeed at TargetClick? 

I studied Marketing with an emphasis on advertising. In this job it really helps to know a little bit about SEO, SEM, etc. and in my “school days” I was fortunate enough to be introduced to these handy little pieces of information and it has helped me settle into my position easier.
